This week,

I spoke with Sabrina Runbeck, PA-C, a cardiovascular, thoracic, and transplant surgery physician associate who transformed her career into a mission-driven path as a venture partner, strategic advisor, and human capital architect.

She is also a TEDx speaker. Sabrina started by helping clinicians find confidence, courage, and purpose beyond the bedside. Over time, she began connecting health tech founders with investors, helping them gain visibility, credibility, and capital to grow sustainably. We also dive into the realities of healthcare entrepreneurship. Starting a business is costly, time-consuming, and risky.

Sabrina helps founders and investors identify viable business models so they can grow without becoming full-time founders. For those ready to do the work, she guides them in getting in front of purposeful investors and telling a story that truly resonates. One big insight from our conversation: credibility alone is not enough. Degrees may open doors, but visibility drives opportunities and impact.

- - -

Sabrina Runbeck, PA-C

LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/sabrinarunbeck

- - -

Bianca Ariel, MBA

LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/biancaarielmba

- - -

Disclaimer: Although the guest featured in this episode is a licensed physician, the discussion is intended for informational and entertainment purposes only and should not be considered medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Every day we hear from money coaches, gurus, and society at large that success means more money.

We are told to chase better jobs, start businesses, and find ways to increase our income. What often gets missed in the conversation is that we cannot truly build wealth until we get out of debt. Dr. Camille knows this firsthand.

Like many physicians, she left training with six figures of student loan debt. While most of her peers focused on earning more, she went in search of books on money, debt management, and finance. She was determined not to repeat the generational patterns she witnessed growing up, where money was a constant source of stress.

Through self-education and discipline, she paid off her debt, impressed her financial advisor, and even began teaching others what she had learned. She went on to lead classes for Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University, but she noticed a gap.

The narrative suggested physicians were not smart with money, when in reality they simply needed a plan and support to break free from debt and shame.

Today, Dr. Camille uses her personal experience and expertise to help physicians and other high-earning professionals get out of debt, start investing, and finally build the wealth they have been working so hard for. I hope this episode serves as both inspiration and a practical resource for your own journey. Like many physicians I meet, she dreamed of owning her own practice, and she made it happen for decades. Her mission was simple: to create an environment where patients received the care they truly deserved. She succeeded in bringing that vision to life, pouring her heart, soul, sweat, and tears into running her practice for many years.

We talk about the highs and challenges of building and sustaining a practice, serving patients, running ads, staying engaged in the community, and doing everything possible to keep the doors open. Eventually, after a difficult conversation with her bookkeeper, she realized it was time to let go.

The hardest part was not just closing the practice, it was saying goodbye to the patients, team, and family she had built along the way. But her story did not end there. On a temporary assignment overseas, Dr. Gibson discovered what healthcare could truly look like, with time and energy given to patients, real support among clinicians, and the space for her soul to feel refreshed in medicine again.

That experience opened her eyes to a new path in travel medicine. As she continued assignments abroad, she was often asked, “How did you get here? How can I do this too?” Inspired by those questions, she built a business teaching other physicians how to become travel doctors. In this conversation, we dive into her journey from building and closing her practice to finally finding the freedom she had been seeking all along.

I hope you enjoy this episode.

- - -

Xunda Gibson, MD

LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/xunda-gibson-md-8123639/

- - -

Bianca Ariel, MBA

LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/biancaarielmba/

- - -

Disclaimer: Although the guest featured in this episode is a licensed physician, the discussion is intended for informational and entertainment purposes only and should not be considered medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
Her experience reflects a troubling reality in the United States, where maternal health outcomes are among the worst in high-income countries.

Black women are nearly three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white women, regardless of education or income level. Dr. Lailah’s story is a reminder that being an expert does not shield you from systemic failure.

This life-altering experience led her to create Aster, a healthcare technology platform focused on transforming how women are seen, treated, and supported during one of the most vulnerable times in their lives.

In this conversation, Dr. Lailah talks about the gaps in maternal care, the urgent need for patient advocacy, and how Aster is building a more collaborative, compassionate approach to women’s health.

She also opens up about the challenges of launching a healthcare startup and the vision she holds for a future where better outcomes are possible for everyone.

When you think of personal brand, you might picture someone building a business. But personal branding is just as important if you're looking for a job. Before an employer or client even talks to you, they’ve probably already searched your name. I’ve experienced it myself.

Since launching my podcast, more people have been reaching out simply because they connect with the message I’ve been sharing. That's why I knew it was time to have this conversation with someone who has been showing up consistently for years. Dr. Farah Laurent helps nurses, especially new nurses, find their dream jobs. She helps them push past limiting beliefs like “the market is too saturated” or “I’m not ready to be visible online.”

She reminds them that we can't wait to be discovered or invited into rooms. We have to take initiative. We have to be willing to show up, even if our message feels messy or unpolished. It’s not about being perfect. It’s about being real. Your message matters.

Your expertise matters. And if you're looking for work or trying to grow your brand, showing up online with confidence can open doors that would otherwise stay closed. Right now, AI is changing the game. People are using technology to duplicate themselves, generate content, and build faster than ever. And with that speed comes a lot of noise.

The only way to rise above it is by being fully yourself. Your story, your voice, and your presence are what make you stand out. We want real. We want authenticity. We want to use technology to amplify the voice that already lives in us, not to replace it.

In this episode, we talk about Dr. Farah’s leadership journey in the hospital system, how she wanted to make an impact the right way, and what eventually pushed her to start helping other nurses navigate both career paths and entrepreneurship.

She stayed late, listened deeply, and poured herself into helping people heal. But over time, the demands of the system began to take a toll. The pressure was constant, the expectations never-ending, and slowly, her own health, peace, and sense of purpose started to slip away. She was burned out and silently struggling, but she couldn’t ignore the feeling that she was meant for something more. Looking back, she says she should have left sooner, but she also believes everything happened in the right time. In this conversation, Dr. Patrice shares what it was like to leave conventional medicine and step into a new way of practicing rooted in intention, connection, and healing. She talks about the moment she knew she could not stay, the emotional toll of working in a system that no longer aligned with her values, and how she found her way through Lifestyle Medicine. We explore the six pillars that guide her approach, the power of mindset and daily habits, and why real healing goes beyond prescriptions. Today, through her practice Nuempowerment Health, she helps clients take charge of their well-being through personalized coaching and intentional living. This is a story about listening to your inner voice, redefining what it means to care, and finding the courage to choose a path that feels true. Dr. Rowley began her amazing career studying overseas in Japan as a financial analyst but soon realized that the work she was doing, while important to others, did not fulfill her. Determined to pursue her childhood dream of becoming a physician, she made the bold decision to go back to school. Before entering medical school, she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. During an ER visit, she encountered a resident physician whose lack of compassion reinforced her belief that she could make a difference in the field of medicine. Undeterred by her diagnosis, she forged ahead, knowing that becoming a physician was her true path. After completing medical school, Dr. Rowley began working in urgent care to gain experience and financial stability while training in functional medicine. Although certification is not required in this field, she sought to deepen her expertise to ensure she could provide the highest level of care. Before completing her certification, she learned about a physician in Houston who had been looking for over a year to sell an established functional medicine practice with a patient base of over 100. Recognizing the opportunity, she stepped into ownership, taking on a leadership role and fully embracing her purpose. Today, she runs a thriving practice, proving that resilience, vision, and a commitment to one’s passion can lead to a deeply fulfilling career. - - - -
